The covid 19 pandemic made vitamin D deficiency even worse. Because the sun is the biggest source of vitamin D and the general public has been quarantined, the public is not receiving their vitamin D as they normally would. Vitamin D deficiency can cause Rickets in infants (Dedek, 2021). Deficiency can also cause osteomalacia, bone softening and hormone imbalance. Signs of intoxication include liver damage, kidney stones, calcification in the heart, lungs and even death. Micronutrients help the body function normally and maintain homeostasis. If the body is balanced it can fight of viruses and prevent disease because it is healthy. If the body can’t maintain homeostasis, it is susceptible to viruses, changes and mal formations of boned and skin that cant function normally. For example, if you cut your self and you are healthy, your body will heal itself. If you are unhealthy or lacking specific micronutrients, your skin won’t be able to heal fast enough. The longer the skin is open, the higher you are at risk for infection. Health Science Science Nursing NUTRITION 225 Share QuestionEmailCopy link Comments (0)
